As a way of helping memorialize Ben's brief life, Lobis has launched a crowd funding campaign to finance an idea he hopes will protect others: a biometric locking station for firearms. The idea is that guns would be stored in a carrier that could only be unlocked by their owner's fingerprint, making it difficult for intruders or children to get hold of them.

'Smart' Helmet Startup Wins Wearable Tech Award at SXSW 2014
A company that makes augmented-reality motorcycle helmets was named the best wearable tech company at a technology competition here at South by Southwest Interactive festival Sunday night (Mar. 9).
A total of 48 startup companies competed on Saturday and Sunday, in six categories including wearable tech, entertainment/content, enterprise/big data, health, social and innovative world technologies. Three teams were named finalists in each category, and the winning teams each took home $4,000.

Tesla's Gigafactory to significantly reduce Li-ion battery production costs by 2020

As Tesla’s Supercharger network expands and Model S sales continue to grow, so too does the company’s need to find a more economical battery solution. A proposed technology amalgamation in the form of the Gigafactory could theoretically reduce per kWh and lithium-ion costs by over 30 percent by 2020.Pitched as a "forward looking project," Tesla’s proposed Gigafactory will, if successful, produce the same number of lithium-ion batteries by the year 2020 as the entire world’s output in 2013. According to Tesla, by working with various technology and battery partners on this large scale project, the company could significantly reduce production costs by achieving optimal economies of scale.

GoPro rose to fame with its action cams - small, weatherproof, mountable video cameras that offer excellent video quality and battery life, considering their size. Thrill seeker Felix Baumgartner famously used a GoPro camera to record his free fall from space in 2012.
The cameras were initially sought by action and extreme sports enthusiasts, but other hobbyists have been quick to find new uses for the compact video cams. Drone enthusiasts, for example, have found the GoPro ideal for mounting to their flying vehicles,capturing footage from the skies.
